i want to do one as well. Chris, you should promote on the forum that as many v-lifers as can, should do the same one so we could all meat up, eat FINiBARs, have Surge, and then pass on the beer after because we'd rather have almond milk.

i think that one even encourages you to enter as a team.

I've been thinking about doing the Tough Mudder up in Bear Creek PA this April. I can train both for that and my 3rd Dan test (which is the weekend before the Tough Mudder) congruently since the objectives are very compatible.

Again, I'm a resistance-training nut, but I'll do the occasional 5K for fun and to make sure I'm "functional" in that realm of basic fitness. I really don't even train for them; I just show up, pay my fee, and run. Why not?
Do you find that you make progress in each 5K when you don't train for them? Or is your time always the same?
I've only done a few. I've improved every time though.

With new runner's just by running more you can get faster because you get more efficient at running ie your aerobic cappasity gets higher.
My advice for hard trainers who like to do the ocasional 5k road race and get faster with everyone is to go to a track 2-3 times prior to the race, mayber 2 or 3 weeks before and do a quick track workout, 2x400,2x800 then 2x1200, youl be basically sprinting so its a great workout and you arent bored out of your mind running for 40 minutes or whatever you would normally run. Its a lactate threshold workout, so youl crank up taht metabolism and increase hormone production for you weight training workouts. best of both worlds.

I did a sprint triathlon last summer, and the running was the hardest part for me, but I still did it in 28 minutes so I guess I'm average lol.
The biking and swimming were easy, I swam for 7 years and I bike to work in the summer.
you swam for 7 years wow how far did you get?
Sorry couldn't resist!

I did the warrior dash 5k obstacle course on Sunday. It was my first race. I've never been much of a runner and I've run twice in the past 9 months. I've just been doing 5\3\1 and bulking since late March.
SO I was really happy with my time of 26mins (or 25??, can't remember and they haven't posted results yet) 5seconds and 10miliseconds. I think I could have finished 4minutes faster too but I was pacing myself. The most challenging part was this series of steep hills that were just slick as Vaseline on glass. I was running in Nike frees which have NO tread and I just had to claw my way up.
One fun part was where there were rope climb walls. It was getting really backed up with people waiting to climb one of the three ropes so I ran up the wall and jumped without using a rope while everyone was in queue. That probably saved a lot of time. It was really fun although the obstacles could have been a bit tougher. I recommend it to anyone though, great event.
When I left the best men's time was about 17mins and I was 311 place out of a few thousand with some more heats waiting to go.

My goal is to do a Warrior Dash next year. Either the east Texas one or the one in Georgia. I'm in Memphis - wish there was one closer, but guess I'll make a road trip of it.

I'm a bit late to the party but I, too, would up the ante and say that a "fit" person should be able to do a sprint triathlon. The swimming gets most people. It's not so much the distance but the fact that most sprint tris are done in open water. I've seen a few done in swimming pools but you're missing out on the fun. The one word of advice I have is don't let the short distances of each individual event fool you. Yes, most people could probably get through a half-mile swim if they pushed it, and the 12-mile bike is quite easy since cycling involves minimal impact. I would bet that even the most out of shape person could bike 12 miles and survive. But you're doing all three at once, and that makes a difference. How much you want to train for this depends on how much you want to enjoy yourself that day. A fairly fit person could probably do one with little or no training, but it might make for a miserable day.
